On October 1, 1999, the University of Extremadura inaugurated the 1999/2000 academic year at the Faculty of Business, Finance, and Tourism in Cáceres. The inaugural lecture, "Reflections on the Journey of Humanity in Recent Decades," was delivered by Professor Miguel Ángel Fajardo Caldera, Chair of Applied Economics.
